Study it, check out videos. -Get comfortable with subject, put them in the background you know, check lighting. -Things will go wrong. Do some planning. Check batteries, equipment, recheck, organize. -Take pictures of your family. -Be the light, control the light (flash). –Talk to your subject. -Do not hide behind your camera. -Be set up and ready, -Approach children after they show interest in you or your props. -Make the shoot fun and about your subject -Do not let the parents get angry and scold kids. -Change toys often to keep youngsters interested. Put the toys where you want them to be. Have the parents bring new toys. -Do not be afraid of making a fool of yourself. It is not all about Equipment. It is about the subject. Have an impact, be different. Godox -very reasonable, high speed sink, talk to each other, 1 second recharge. Start with one light. Bigger is softer, smaller is harder. The more aggressive the light placement the more exciting the results. Be a control freak with your spill light. Use grids and colour jells. Watch you tube video and google. The first click. Stop. The first image is for critical decision making Histogram Blinky’s – highlight indicator Sharpness. Things out of place, check clothing, ties, jackets, hair. Things growing out of heads – backgrounds, mergers, horizons. Composition, crop at appropriate place. Don’t crop at joints. Pose, one, two or two hundred and fifty. Don’t pose straight on with head leaning backwards. Time spent planning is never wasted. What if & So what (work through scenarios). One person or Group Portraits F 2.8 (outside) or F 16 (inside) Group shots, straight light on. White background separate you subjects with light. Be different. Think outside the box. The Plan.
